A humble Review-Rant of G.I.Joe… LOTS OF SPOILERS.

Posted by scumminik on August 8, 2009

Well, well, well. A good friend of mine promised me to write a review of the G.I. Joe flick, which promised to be excellent due to his extraordinary expertise in all things G.I. Joe. He failed to deliver a review and instead delivered a novel. Kinda.
Here’s what Ed has to say:

G.I.J.O.E. is the codename for America’s NATO’s daring, highly-trained spuriously recruited special mission force. Its purpose: to defend human freedom France and the Arctic against Cobra MARS, a ruthless terrorist organization defense contractor determined to rule the world impersonate the President.

This ain’t your father’s G.I.Joe. This isn’t really even your G.I.Joe. But it’s a lot closer to yours than your father’s. So be grateful. After 4 years of development hell, it looks like GIJoe actually became a good summer action spectacular. Is it arthouse brilliance? No, but you were in a bubble or sanatorium for the last year if you thought it might be. I knew this was going to be a rocky road four years ago, when Hasbro made the first announcement about DiBonaventura getting the license to hollywoodize Joe. They promised us the moon (80s Joe characters in familiar, comic-based settings)… with the exception of Rex, a new character to give the audience a point of reference. Read the rest of this entry »

“Trailer Trash” #2 – The Bracelet of Bordeaux

Posted by scumminik on June 12, 2009

In this episode Ely Henry faces a trailer so unique the movie could be the first of a new genre. Or, you now, just plain weird. Also, if you ever thought girl scouts needed their own kick ass action movie line, this trailer delivers it. John McLane would be so jealous. If he were a girl scout. Enjoy.

Raimi is back \ The “Drag me to Hell” Review

Posted by untamedaggression on May 30, 2009

James Raynor

James Raynor

Today we are joined by a young film-maker from the UK. James Raynor does not only have a soft spot for horror movies, he makes his own. I urge everyone to check out the short “H. P. Lovecraft’s The Book” on Imdb.com but first, read the review of Sam Raimi’s newest trip down Horrorlane. Some spoilers ahead. Ye be warned.

In the mid-90’s, following the release of his post-modern western “The Quick and The Dead”, Sam Raimi decided to grow up. He felt his over-the-top humour and camerawork, defined by his Evil Dead trilogy, were compromising his work, so he embarked upon what fans would dub his “serious period,” with the stunning drama “A Simple Plan” (1998) and the stunningly average “For Love of the Game” (1999). “The Gift” (2001) was a great supernatural thriller, but was more of a character study than a balls-to-the-wall horror flick of yore.

The LongBox: In brightest day, In blackest night…

Posted by bobtgoldfish on May 26, 2009

The LongBox

The LongBox

Okay… so as you all know, last year I did a post on my top 5 comic movies.  I took a long time and spent hours of research (aka watching movies) to come up with that list.

Add to that that you will always be looking for perfect casting for various heroes in the movie adaptations. Now I was surfing another site and I came across a fan made superhero trailer that absolutely blew my mind.

Not only was the trailer very very very well done, the casting of the main character had caught me completely off guard.

Who? What hero (as if the title didn’t give it away)? Will there be punch and pie? For all these answers and more (including the trailer) read on.

And adding to that my discussion who should play more memorable heroes.

Ready for some big blue genitals? The Watchmen Review

Posted by scumminik on February 24, 2009

One hour ago I was still in the screening of what is most likely a movie that was even more anticipated by fans and geeks than the big bat’s last adventure. Let me start this review by saying, I can not wait till I can watch it again. And then some more.

If you are a fan of high definition video – and let’s face it, who isn’t? – check the link under this already very pretty youtube-version of it:
