GeekEteers

All Things Geek.

Oh September, how I love thee…

Posted by scumminik on October 14, 2008

Ever since I was a kid, september has been my favourite month. Why I am writing this, in the middle of october? Because september was by FAR the strongest month in the brief history of this website. Reason enough for me to recap and take a brief look into the future.

Without mentioning solid numbers, I can say that in the last month we had almost four times the traffic on GeekEteers than in our former best month. This comes to no surprise if you look at the amount of articles that were posted during that time. The month started off with a first taste of the comedy of Ely Henry, who also gave us our very first official report from a convention.
Many people (including the kind Jedi Master) recognised themselves in the video, most noticeably this person who wrote a nice blog entry about his appearance. Greetings to a fellow WoW-player.

September continued with an in-length article about the thoughts of yours truly on the subject of the current state of the “Superman House”. I do not want to get into too much detail here but report, that the amount of money that was raised exceeded the minimal goal by far: $101,000 will help to repair the house. Thanks to you.

What would a website called GeekEteers be without a proper comic book column? A bit sad. Thankfully, our very own Bob T. Goldfish returned last month to provide us with several entries of “The Longbox” – and proves to be not only a lover of comics but also a TV critic and a real “Con Man” (please excuse the pun).

We were also able to provide an exclusive interview with the independent filmmaker Ralph Suarez and although I can not imagine a better interview partner than him, we are trying to find more people willing to talk to us GeekEteers.

So far so good awesome.

I really am proud of everyone involved in our little project here and I hope we will continue to grow strong. Our goal is it, to provide you with updates of our columns on a more regular basis and to cover as many conventions as possible.
Of course we are happy about feedback – good and bad – as well as questions and demands.
Which leads to my final point: Comments. As a rule, commenting is disabled on all entries on GeekEteers, a decision which can be modified for every individual entry. I have been asked why  I did this. I made this decision because I am not a fan of the whole “Web 2.0, User Generated Content” hype. This attitude is what prevents me from calling this website a “blog”.

Yet, I do not make a crusade out of this and as long as the comments stay as friendly (not meaning critique free, no insults, no spam, no trolls but critique is welcome) as the ones we have so far, comment away!

Here is to another month full of surprises.

All the best,

Scumminik
