“Background Noise #2 – Kevin Smith, Accents and All Things Geek”

Posted by scumminik on October 28, 2009

Here we go again.

Our second episode is the first of a few podcasts that will (feature the attempt to) focus on one subject: The work and career of one Kevin Smith. This time I had the pleasure of talking to Will Turner who is not only a writer for GeekEteers but also the creator and writer of the British “Reynard City” webcomic, so again, you will have the pleasure to listen to a German butchering the English language and a British accent. Accents are one of the many topics we talk about aside from the films of Kevin Smith because, naturally, we digress and talk about movies, comics, games, Hitler, comedy and the current state of our global economy. OK that last one was a lie.

If you want to read the words of Will Turner you can order his book on Amazon and if you want to listen to that comedy madness that is “Let’s be having you“, then go here.

WARNING: Sometimes we curse, sometimes we swear, you don’t like? We don’t care.

“Background Noise #1 – Patton Oswald vs. Liam Neeson”

Posted by scumminik on September 27, 2009

First of all: I apologize.

Second of all: Here it is, the very first episode of the podcast that was never meant to be, an exchange between two major geeks, namely our Conman Bob T. Goldfish and myself. The main subject of our first bit of audio content is the cast of the new “A-Team” movie and who our choices for the parts of Hannibal, B.A., Murdock and Face would have been. Naturally, we digress quite a bit from that, talking about almost every movie and TV franchise in the history of entertainment.

Third of all: The audio quality is…well it is OK. It sounds like a Skype-call because it is, oddly enough, I sound like I am trapped in a well because I didn’t realize until the end of the recording, that my computer was set up to use the built-in microphone instead of the really good one I was actually talking into. If you still don’t understand what we’re saying… well Bob is English, I am German.

As of right now, we don’t have an intro music or any of that fancy stuff, I am currently researching that thing but if any of you musicians out there wants to offer us a song just send us an email or a twitter message.

Here we go, I hope you will enjoy two geeks talking about “The A-Team” as if it was Shakespeare. Which, let’s Face it (yes, I went there and now I will never be able to come back), it is.

WARNING: Sometimes we curse, sometimes we swear, you don’t like? We don’t care.
WARNING: Spoiler Alert for the “Buffy Season 8″ comic

Thanks.

A year ago people started trying to save the house in which the character Superman was created. The project caught our attention and we did our – admittedly very small – part and put up a permanent link to the charity website OrdinaryPeopleChangeTheWorld.com and published a little article about it. A year ago the video presenting us with the state the house was in, made us weep, now this video may wet our eyes as well, but in a good way. Thanks to everyone who participated.

“Dungeon Whispers” #5 \ Beggars can be Gamers

Posted by scumminik on September 7, 2009

Dungeon Whispers Logo

Over the span of the last decade or so my finances have fluctuated quite a bit, sometimes I did not have to worry at all, sometimes cash was tricky to come by. Still, no matter what my bank account said, I rolled dice at the end of the week. This of course presents a challenge sometimes. Especially in our current economy (to abuse a phrase that has been raped to death already) any and all expenses need to be looked at twice. I decided to sit down and look at the methods I used – sometimes subconsciously – to save some bucks and share the most successful ones with you. So here it is, Scumminik’s guide to cheap inexpensive gaming. Read the rest of this entry »

A humble Review-Rant of G.I.Joe… LOTS OF SPOILERS.

Posted by scumminik on August 8, 2009

Well, well, well. A good friend of mine promised me to write a review of the G.I. Joe flick, which promised to be excellent due to his extraordinary expertise in all things G.I. Joe. He failed to deliver a review and instead delivered a novel. Kinda.
Here’s what Ed has to say:

G.I.J.O.E. is the codename for America’s NATO’s daring, highly-trained spuriously recruited special mission force. Its purpose: to defend human freedom France and the Arctic against Cobra MARS, a ruthless terrorist organization defense contractor determined to rule the world impersonate the President.

This ain’t your father’s G.I.Joe. This isn’t really even your G.I.Joe. But it’s a lot closer to yours than your father’s. So be grateful. After 4 years of development hell, it looks like GIJoe actually became a good summer action spectacular. Is it arthouse brilliance? No, but you were in a bubble or sanatorium for the last year if you thought it might be. I knew this was going to be a rocky road four years ago, when Hasbro made the first announcement about DiBonaventura getting the license to hollywoodize Joe. They promised us the moon (80s Joe characters in familiar, comic-based settings)… with the exception of Rex, a new character to give the audience a point of reference. Read the rest of this entry »
